Plant-starch-based wallpaper glue powder (modified starch / CMS) typically has a shelf life of 12 to 24 months from production when stored correctly in sealed original packaging. The exact period depends on raw material formulation, packaging integrity and storage conditions. Importers should treat the production date on the bag as the start of the shelf life, not the arrival date.
What Degrades Wallpaper Glue Powder
- Moisture: the biggest risk. Powder absorbs humidity, clumps, and loses solubility and viscosity. Once clumped, performance is unpredictable.
- Heat: prolonged storage above 35°C accelerates degradation of the starch polymer.
- Light: direct sunlight on transparent or thin packaging can affect the product over very long periods.
- Package seal: a broken PE inner liner lets moisture in even in a dry warehouse.
How to Store 20kg Bulk Bags
Store 20kg kraft bags with PE inner liner on pallets (not directly on the floor), in a dry, ventilated warehouse at 5-30°C and below 65% relative humidity. Keep bags away from exterior walls, windows and loading-dock doors where humidity fluctuates. Do not stack more than the recommended height to avoid compressing and tearing the lower bags. Rotate stock by first-in-first-out (FIFO) using the production date.
How to Store OEM Small Packs
OEM small packs (200g / 300g / 500g / 1kg) are more sensitive than bulk bags because each unit has more packaging surface relative to content. Store them in the original outer cartons, away from moisture and direct sun. Reseal any opened outer carton. Retail packs should not be displayed in humid or sun-exposed retail environments for long periods.
Shipping and Transit Considerations
During sea freight, containers experience temperature and humidity swings. The PE inner liner and intact outer kraft bag are the primary protection. Do not remove the inner liner or open bags before warehousing. On arrival, inspect for torn bags, water damage or clumping before accepting the batch into inventory.
